C-section scar massage

Post C-Section Fitness (for Libby!)

Found this video on abdominal exercises following a c-section and as an abdominal myomectomy is a similar cut, I figured that the same exercises can be used, given that you are 6 weeks post surgery and have been given permission from your doctor. I haven't started these exercise as yet, but will soon as I was given permission by my doctor to do abdominal exercise.

STRETCHING FOR ABDOMINAL ADHESIONS

Stretching for Abdominal Adhesions
Your abdominal organs are separated by protective coatings that keep your organs in place and support moving and twisting in your body. After abdominal surgery, however, scarring known as adhesions can form in your abdominal cavity, causing pain in the pelvis or abdomen. Perform regular stretching moves that act like a massage to scar tissue to alleviate this pain and prevent further scar tissue from developing.

SUPPORTED PELVIC TILT

The supported pelvic tilt helps to relieve abdominal adhesions in the pelvic cavity. To perform, place your legs on a wall and scoot your buttocks toward the wall to deepen the stretch. Do not stretch so far that you experience pain or strain. Stay in this stretch for 15 seconds, then slowly lift your pelvis up toward the ceiling. Stay in this pose for 15 seconds, then lower the pelvis. Repeat three to four times. Stand up slowly as you may have become lightheaded while lying down.

HEAD SIT-UP

This exercise massages the abdomen. Lie on your back with your feet flat on the floor, and cross your arms over your abdomen, gently gripping the stomach and pulling your stomach muscles toward each other. Breathe in and lift the head as you exhale, leading with the chin. Tuck the chin as close to your chest as possible. Hold this position for three to five seconds, then release the stretch and lower your head to your starting position. Rest for a few deep breaths, then repeat 10 times.

Omega 3-6-9, Essential Supplement for Fertility and Pregnancy

What Are Essential Fatty Acids?
For years it has been driven into our heads that fats are bad. We must eliminate fats from our diet to lose weight, prevent heart disease and more. However, what many people seem to fail and realize is that there are some fats that are actually good for us, and are in fact essential to our good health.
For optimum health eat essential fatty acids every day.
Essential fatty acids are three of these good fats. There are three different types of unsaturated fatty acids; Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9. Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are essential to the body. Omega-9 acids are not “essential” for human health, because unlike Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids which cannot be manufactured by the body, Omega-9 is naturally occurring because the body does contain the necessary enzymes for synthesis of the fatty acid to take place.
However, there are some cases where the body is unable to produce adequate amounts of Omega-9 on it’s own, so in this case a supplement is definitely beneficial. Since Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are unable to be produced by the body, we must gain it by eating foods that are rich in these unsaturated fats or use a dietary supplement to get the necessary amounts in our body.
Best Sources Of 3-6-9 Essential Fatty Acids
The three best sources of essential fatty acids that will provide the different levels of unsaturated fats are borage oil, flax oil and fish oil. As each of the types of fatty acids are processed differently by the body and work in different ways, it is important to ensure that you are getting the proper intake of each.
flax2Flax oil and fish oil are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 acids have been shown to help fertility by helping to regulate hormones in the body, increase cervical mucous, promote ovulation and overall improve the quality of the uterus by increasing the blood flow to the reproductive organs.Borage oil is rich in Omega-6 fats, which can assist fertility by improving reproductive cell structure, decrease risk of inflammation and improve the condition of organs in the body. Omega-3 fats also contain two acids that are crucial to good health: DHA and EPA. These two acids have been shown to help many forms of disease. Low levels of DHA have been linked to depression and other mental health issues. During pregnancy, a lack of DHA may be associated with premature birth, low birth weight and hyperactivity in children.
Omega-9 monounsaturated fats are found in various food sources with the most amount of the nutrient found in olive oil. Other sources of Omega-9 fatty acids include fresh seeds and nuts, avocado and sunflower oil.
It is important to ensure that your daily intake of nutrients includes each of these essential fatty acids, particularly paying attention to intake of Omega-3 and 6. Dietary supplements can be found that contain 3-6-9 fatty acids combined or you can take them separately or add foods to your diet that are rich in these fats. For best results, look for supplements that use fish and flax oil for the Omega-3’s, and borage oil as a source of Omega-6.
By eating two servings of fish per week, you can increase your levels of omega-3s in your diet. With the concern of mercury levels found in fish today and the high cost of omega 3 dense fish such as wild Alaskan salmon averaging $20lb, in many cases taking a supplement is a safer and more cost effective way to go.
Why Omega-3 EFA Are Essential For Your Fertility

Essential fatty acids help to:

  • Regulate hormones
  • Increase the blood flow to the uterus
  • Reduce sensitivity to the hormone prolactin, which can suppress ovulation.
  • increases egg white cervical mucus, which is needed to help the sperm reach the egg.
  • Helps your cycle to become normalized.

How To Get Your Period Back by HETHIR RODRIGUEZ, B.S., M.H., C.M.T.

It can be quite frustrating if you are trying to get pregnant and yet have no period. Having a healthy cycle is step one for boosting your fertility naturally and being able to get pregnant. There are a couple of reasons your cycle may be irregular such as stress, dietary deficiencies, low body weight, getting off of birth control pills, hormonal imbalance, or other underlying issues.
Since the lining of the uterus is not being shed, it is very important to clear out the old blood and establish a healthy cycle again. This can be done naturally and effectively with herbs and nutrition. I have talked with many clients who have been offered synthetic estrogen to get there periods going again… taking synthetic estrogen for this issue is like using a sledge hammer on a thumb tack.
Here are the steps you can take to get your period back:
    1. Eat a healthy fertility diet. Diet is so important for a healthy menstrual cycle and reproductive system. What you eat impacts everything.

    2. Take a whole food multivitamin.
Iron deficiency is one of the major factors for women not having a menstrual cycle and lack of ovulation. Other nutritional deficiencies can cause the menstruation to cease.
    3. Use herbs to help clear the stagnant blood and increase circulation to the uterus while balancing the hormones.
The best Herbs for amenorrhea (lack of menstruation)
    Dong Quai
This is the main herb for this issue. Dong Quai works by promoting blood flow to the pelvis where it will stimulate an absant or scanty period. It also nourishes the blood (it is in nearly all chinese herbal blood-building formulas). Treats iron deficiency and anemia. One of the best uses is it helps women who are not menstruating to invite there menstruation back. The increased circulation also helps to stregthen and balance the uterus.
    Vitex
Vitex is another great herb for amenorrhea due to hormonal imbalance. It helps to balance the hormones while not containing any hormones within the herb.
If you have not had a menstrual cycle for two or months you may want to do a Fertility Cleanse. The Fertility Cleanse helps to cleanse the uterus of old blood and tissues while helping the liver to get rid of excess hormones.
Be patient, the body needs time to establish a cycle and hormone balance. Be gentle with yourself and your body will come back into balance.

Factors That May Cause the Uterus to Function Improperly

The uterus is constantly working to provide us with the best and first home for our developing baby. Because the menstrual cycle is a complex symphony of communication and actions, anything that disrupts the function of the communication or physical make-up of our reproductive system may cause the uterus to not function properly.

    Sedentary Lifestyle
Leading an inactive lifestyle with little to no exercise creates a situation of stagnation of blood flow to our uterus and other reproductive organs. The main artery that supplies blood to our legs also supplies blood to our uterus, ovaries and vagina. If we sit around a lot, especially if we have a desk job, the blood flow to our uterus may be compromised. This is also not a good situation if we have fertility issues pertaining to our uterus, especially if there is scar tissue or adhesions present. Not moving this area of our body enough can contribute to scar tissue and adhesions forming. Doctors going in for surgery in this area of the body have reported scar tissue and adhesions attaching the uterus or ovaries to other areas of the body such as the bladder or other organs. This can be very painful and dangerous.
Sedentary lifestyle also contributes directly to weak muscles of the uterus.
    Uterine Fibroids
Uterine Fibroids often form in the layers of the uterus, causing painful periods or dysfunction of the menstural cycle from slight to serious. Some women carry to term with uterine fibroids present, while others struggle with getting the embryo to implant.
    Scar Tissue
Scar tissue in the uterus can form for a variety of reasons that lead back to some kind of trauma to the uterus. Some of these reasons include:
    * Abortion
    * D&C after miscarriage
    * Cesarean section
    * Intrauterine Device (IUD)
    * Abdominal Surgery in the uterus or near by
    * Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) caused by Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)
    * Endometriosis

    Endometriosis

Endometriosis is when excess endometrium lining of the uterus that normally grows in preparation for the implanting of the egg begins, does not completely shed during menstruation. It then begins to attach to other places of the body besides the uterus. When menses comes, not only does the lining in the uterus bleed, the endometriosis that has grown in other places of the body also bleeds.

In Vitro Fertilization: Is it for you?

Is in vitro fertilization for you?

IVF can help you conceive if you have ovulation problems or blocked fallopian tubes, if your partner has a low sperm count, or if other methods of treatment have been unsuccessful.

    Length of treatment

It takes about four to six weeks to complete one cycle of IVF. You'll have to wait a few weeks for your eggs to mature. Then you and your partner will spend about half a day at your doctor's office or clinic having your eggs retrieved and fertilized. You'll need to go back again two to five days later to have them inserted into your uterus, but you'll be able to go home that same day.

4 Things You Need to Know About Removing Ovarian Cysts

    1. GET THE BIG PICTURE BEFORE SURGERY

Before removing a suspected ovarian cyst, a gynecologist frequently requests additional tests, such as a sonogram and CA-125 blood test. The sonogram allows the doctor the get a better picture of your ovaries, allowing her to see the size of the cyst and its precise location. In addition, a gynecologist sometimes requests a CA-125 test if the patient has an increased risk for ovarian cancer. The CA-125 test checks the level of the CA-125 protein in your blood. CA-125 levels in excess of 35 suggest an increased likelihood that the cyst is cancerous. It's important to recognize that the CA-125 test is not perfect. Sometimes the CA-125 level is high in women who don't have cancer, while it may be low in women who do have cancer.

    2. Risks or Removal

There's a chance that the cyst may return after removal. Scar tissue or adhesions are another issue of concern. In the months and years after surgery, some patients experience growth of scar tissue. Occasionally, this scar tissue is limited to the surgical site; however, it may extend beyond this region to the fallopian tubes and other areas in the pelvis. As with any surgery, there is always a risk for infection to develop. Finally, the surgical procedure to remove an ovarian cyst places the bowel and bladder at risk for damage. While this is rare, it's important to consider the possibility prior to undergoing ovarian cyst removal.

    3. Select the Best Procedure

There are two methods for removing ovarian cysts. Laparoscopic surgery is a less invasive procedure. The doctor makes a small incision in the abdomen, just below the navel. If necessary, the doctor makes one additional incision above the pubic hairline. The doctor then inserts the laparoscope into the primary incision, allowing her to see the cyst. Then, the doctor removes the cyst through the secondary incision. Gynecologists recommend laparoscopic surgery for women at low risk for ovarian cancer, with small and functional ovarian cysts. Doctors perform a laparotomy on women with multiple ovarian cysts or cysts larger than three inches. The laparotomy is preferred for women at risk for ovarian cancer. Patients are under general anesthesia for both surgical procedures. Occasionally, a planned laparoscopic surgery turns into a laparotomy.

    4. Nurture the Body After Surgery

Recovery from ovarian cyst removal surgery depends on the type of surgery. Patients recover more quickly from laparoscopic surgery than laparotomy. Generally, laproscopic surgeries are outpatient procedures, while a laparotomy frequently requires an overnight stay the hospital. Once home from surgery, doctors request that patients restrict activities, such as lifting heavy items or strenuous exercise. Restrictions last for two weeks following laparoscopic surgery and six weeks following laparotomy.

    Becoming AWARE: Know your body

    blog.alrdesign.com

It is true that many of us would rather not know what our problems are because it is less stress to us, but it is equally true that knowing what our problems are from early, help us to be better prepared. There are many young ladies out there, who might not be having a regular period or no period at all and may actually be counting themselves as 'blessed,' but what is normal? It is important that we are able to describe what is normal to each of us as the menstrual cycle for every individual might be different, but still normal. However, there are some things that might not be normal, that we are considering normal having gone through it for a while. In order to identify what is normal and what is not, we are being asked to spend some time tracking our menstrual cycles. Here is some information on how to track our cycles and figure out what may or may not be normal

Menstrual cycle: What's normal, what's not by Mayo clinic staff

How can I track my menstrual cycle?

To find out what's normal for you, start keeping a record of your menstrual cycle. Begin by tracking your start date every month for several months in a row to identify the regularity of your periods. If you're having problems or you're concerned about the timing, flow or discomfort of your periods, then also make note of the following every month:
    • End date. How long does your period typically last? Is it longer or shorter than usual?
    • Flow. Record the heaviness of your flow. Does it seem lighter or heavier than usual? How often do you need new sanitary protection?
    • Pain. Describe any pain associated with your period. Does the pain feel worse than usual?

    What causes menstrual cycle irregularities?

Menstrual cycle irregularities can have many different causes, including:
    • Pregnancy or breast-feeding. A delayed or missed period can be an early sign of pregnancy. If you haven't had your period in six weeks and you've been sexually active, take a pregnancy test. Breast-feeding typically delays the return of menstruation following pregnancy.
    • Eating disorders, extreme weight loss or excessive exercising.Eating disorders — such as anorexia nervosa — extreme weight loss and increased physical activity can disrupt menstruation.
    • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This common hormonal disorder may cause small cysts — fluid-filled sacs or pockets — to develop in the ovaries along with irregular periods.
    • Premature ovarian failure. Premature ovarian failure refers to the loss of normal ovarian function before age 40. Women who have premature ovarian failure may not have periods or may get them irregularly.
    • Endometriosis. This disorder causes tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus to grow outside your uterus. Endometriosis can cause pain — sometimes severe — especially during your period.
    • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). This infection of the reproductive organs may cause irregular menstrual bleeding.
    • Uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus. They may cause heavy menstrual periods and bleeding between periods.

What can I do to prevent menstrual irregularities?

For some women, use of birth control pills can help regulate menstrual cycles. However, some menstrual irregularities can't be prevented. Regular pelvic exams can help ensure that problems affecting your reproductive organs are diagnosed as soon as possible.
In addition, consult your health care provider if:
    • Your periods suddenly stop for more than 90 days
    • Your periods become erratic after having been regular
    • You bleed for more than seven days
    • You bleed more heavily than usual — soaking through more than one pad or tampon every hour or two
    • Your periods are less than 21 days or more than 35 days apart
    • You bleed between periods
    • You develop severe pain during your period
    • You suddenly get a fever and feel sick after using tampons
Remember, tracking your menstrual cycle can help you find out what's normal for you and what isn't. If you have questions or concerns about your menstrual cycle, talk to your health care provider.

Your Emotional Health: A very important part of your healing

Many of the different articles you read concerning what contributes to the growth of fibroid or the state of any of your uterus issues will mention STRESS! In what ways are we stress or can become stressed and how do we deal with it? It is very easy to become stressed or to add stress to our lives in situations like ours, especially if we are not doing anything to reduce or manage it. Here are some situations that can add stress to our lives:

    • Difficulty finding solutions to our problems- We have visited several different doctors/specialist, some came highly recommended, spend a lot of money and there is no one who can give us some clear directives or some clear answers.
    • Ready for kids- You have accomplished your degrees, the job you want, have a great husband and a nice big home and you are now ready to fill it with the kids of your dream and now after years of not trying, you start trying for your babies and nothing is happening.
    • Watching other people who are pregnant or have kids- Some times you walk the street or visit your gynaecologist and there are several excited women seated them with their pregnant tummies. You wonder what it feels like to have a child growing inside of your? When will be your time? You had a preference for a girl or boy child, now you no longer care what you have as long as you have a kid. It hurts even more as you walk the street and see young teenagers with children they cannot take care of.
    • The news and advertisements- ABORTIONS AND HOMELESS CHILDREN. How it hurts and frustrate you. Why are these persons who do not want kids or do not have the means too provide for them so fertile and you who have the means and the education and all the other factors who have worked on over the years to make yourself a better mom, cannot have kids.
    • Baby showers and Celebrations- All your friends around you are having kids. You have gone to several baby showers, your telephone rang and a friend screamed " I am pregnant" You are happy for them and you would celebrate with them but there lies an emptiness within you that longed to be filled and now that news just opened up the wound. Your friend is innocent. She doesn't know your problems.
    • The talks and questions- Is how many years you married now?  When are you going to give me a niece, a nephew, a grandchild, a god child....? It is coming in all directions. The longer you are married, the worse it becomes. They do not know your difficulty, you want to tell them but you are ashamed, uneasy and angry. Maybe they know, maybe they have guessed...thoughts that haunts you.
    • Your past mistakes- You have had an abortion before and now you are ready for kids, but you cannot because what you did had detrimental effects on your uterus so you have to live with the guilt.
    • Your Spouse- he is ready for his son. His friends are talking about their kids and he feel empty. Nothing is wrong with him and he shouts at you, he abuses you. He calls you names. You feel helpless, unworthy, you think you deserve it; it is your fault.
There are many things that can increase your stress. They might not happen all at once. You might go on a few days feeling good and all it takes is one of the above situations to set you off. What are you doing to improve your emotional health? For me, I have nothing to hide :). I blog and  I have a carefree spirit. I might not be ready for kids economically but I keep a positive mind that all will work when I am ready and I trust in God. What are you doing? Here is a video about several things you can do to manage your stress. I think the first one is very important...SMILE AND KEEP ON SMILING. Your victory is on its way. Also find someone you can be open to. You might be a private person, but you still need to talk and let it out. Talking do helps. Have a blessed day!

    Endometriosis, it's a big deal!

After surgery: my second lupron shot

Well yesterday I went for my second lupron shot. I also collected my x-ray results, which I would be taking back today, but having taken a peek :) I saw that every thing is normal so I am gonna see what they will  be saying to me today.

Anyway about the lupron shot, I went to the doctor with several questions written so that I would not forget as I often do. Something always slip through the crack. My first question was about a substitution for this injection because I cannot stand the hot flashes. I am telling you people I cannot get any unexpected visitor because for as long as  I can stay topless, I will and the fan at its maximum do not help. Even in aircon sometimes, I am still fanning. I keep saying I can not believe I will be going through this twice in my life. Still, I bought the injection and step in the office thinking once he inject me I would just have to deal with what follows after. And yes I am dealing with it. I think the hot flashes is the worse part of the injection. Insomnia was once a part of the side effects, but not anymore I guess, after all I am getting some sleep these last few days.

So the doctor believed that given the severity of the endometriosis and although he removed what he had seen, the lupron would be best for what might have been hidden. I trust my doctor and besides is one more injection after this, if he suggest another course I would not trust him then lol. Secondly, and these are based on the questions I asked, sex can take place without the use of condoms (which i hate). Thirdly, the lupron takes about 2 months after the last injection to get out of your system. Fourtly, I am allowed to go and have my kids then and I can do it naturally without the help of any fertility pills etc. Finally, I can go back to regular exercises, even doing abs work :)

I have one more lupron shot, but would be travelling home. I spent the morning calling all the pharmacies at home to find out if they sell it. I found one but could not believe the price. About EC$5000 for one injection. Can you believe it? I find it expensive here and it costs Jamaican $18, 275. Well the pharmacist believed it is subsidized and maybe so, but whatever the case I am thankful to the Almighty who have me in the right place at the right time. Nothing happens by chance. Have a good day y'all and again feel free to ask me anything.

Changes: What have you done for your body today?

Many times we would read blogs, articles, or get involve in forums because we are seeking answers. However, we found out that sometimes the answers given is not what we were seeking or in some cases there are no answers and we left feeling depress. Whatever the case, we find out that whatever we are going through is not an easy fix. Consequently, many of us ignore our situations for different reasons:

    • Ignoring it makes us feel as if it does not exist. We call the pain and whatever we are going through normal
    • We think by ignoring it, it would eventually disappear.
    • We cannot be bothered with the dieting and exercises
    • We just want to be normal, eating whatever we please. Why can't we just be normal?
    • The more information we get the more depress we become and we just hate that feeling
    • What is the sense of doing all these things if there is no cure
I know what you are going through having gone through it myself. But here are the facts:
    • Ignoring the problem does not create change
    • Changing our lifestyles not only makes it easier for us to cope, but may prevent future sufferings (for example finding out you cannot have children because you stay too long to deal with the situation)
    • It is easier to change our lifestyles now than before giving the many substitutes that are out there. We can cook up a tasty healthy meal without feeling like we are missing something.
    • Research would show that people should be eating more like us, healthy, than themselves as many of the food that they are eating are not good for them anyway.
    • Finding out all we can helps us to prepare and cope much better.
So I ask you, what have you done for your body today? What changes are you working on ? You don't have to always get it right, but you must keep trying and I can attest to this. Let us make a vow to ourselves. Slowly but surely we are going to create little changes until we get it right. Today, my target is 8 glasses of water. What are you doing for your body today?

Curing Fibroids Naturally - The Role Played by Liver Detoxers

This is just an article I found about detoxing and fibroid. I remembered before my surgery, I wanted to try whatever I was told would help. I did try detoxing and herbs by doing a water, juice and Daniel fast with the church I attended and going to a naturopathic doctor who mixed some chinese herbs for me. The fasting helped me not only through weight loss but my body felt more energetic. I am unware however as to how the chinese herbs helped as I only did for close to 2 months and I was told that herbs worked slowly and I particularly effective in shrinking small fibroids about 6cm or smaller. Well mines was 8cm. Whatever the case, I do believe that because a lot of toxins and hormones mimic estrogen, it is quite possible that detoxing can help so here is an article, I have read. Hope it does you some good.
